The recipe for longevity is simple and easy to follow: eat less. Studies done on a variety of animals have shown that restricting calories can lead to a longer, healthier life.
Now, new research published in the journal “Science” suggests that the body’s daily rhythms play a role in this longevity effect.
Thus, according to the study, eating only during the busiest time of day substantially extended the lifespan of mice on a low-calorie diet.
Researchers at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (USA) have analyzed hundreds of mice for four years and have seen that a low-calorie diet alone prolonged the life of the animals by 10%.
