Dreilinden – In the summer of 1999, Ebay revolutionized the German second-hand market: Internet users could finally sell used items privately. Tomorrow, Wednesday, the next day of celebration for online junk dealers:

Ebay Germany (193 million web visits/month) will abolish all sales fees for private sellers as of March 1: no more commissions. This was recently a whopping 11 percent of the sales value plus a fixed fee of up to 0.35 euros. BILD had repeatedly criticized the high commission.

More and more private sellers offered their things for free on Ebay classifieds. Today, German Ebay boss Oliver Klinck admits: “We are removing the biggest hurdle consumers have seen when selling on ebay.de.”

Ebay, however, does not give up the millions in revenue completely unselfishly. It’s a thriller: Online marketplaces are growing everywhere: “kaufland.de”, “zalando.de”, “otto.de”, “etsy.de” and top dog Amazon is still gaining ground. Reason: affiliated dealers make up to 190 percent more sales than those who only sell via your website. With the waiver of fees, Ebay is launching a range attack on the competition: The private sellers are happy!

Free eBay: BILD clarifies important questions

► What should I sell on Ebay?

Anything that makes money and can be shipped. Pick-up at home is also possible. This is what the sale brings on average (examples):

Used Cell Phones: Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro 128 GB: 167 EUR

Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G 128 GB: 241 EUR

Used children’s games:

Lotti Carrots: 9 EUR

Grab Hubi: 17 EUR

Br. stroller The Racer GTS: 215 EUR

► What should I pay attention to?

To avoid trouble with the buyer, honestly state the condition and signs of use in the offer. The buyer then has a right of return if the description differs significantly from the condition.

► Does Ebay report sales to the tax office?

Yes, the new Platform Tax Transparency Act obliges Ebay and Co. to do so. All-clear for private providers: used everyday objects can be sold without tax consequences.

► What alternatives are there?

If you don’t want to have trouble with buyers, you can, for example, sell used electronics to buyers. Who pays the most? Comparison on www.handyverkauf.net. Important: On Ebay, the proceeds are usually higher.
