Sports director Max Eberl has promised RB Leipzig fans to put together a top team for the new season despite the notable departures.
“I can understand the disappointment and concerns of the fans. No club, no responsible person and no coach in the world likes to lose players of this format,” said Eberl (49) of the “Leipziger Volkszeitung”: “But the whole thing did not hit us unprepared – and I can promise that we will have a great and exciting team again.”
Prominent departures
Compared to the previous season, top performers Konrad Laimer (free transfer to Bayern Munich), Christopher Nkunku (60 million euros/Chelsea FC) and Dominik Szoboszlai (70/Liverpool FC) have left the German Cup winners. In addition, defender Josko Gvardiol wants to switch to Champions League winners Manchester City. According to reports, Leipzig has called for a fee of 100 million euros plus bonuses. “Josko and his advisors have given us their wish to move to Manchester City,” confirmed Eberl: “We are in talks with Manchester. There is nothing more to say at the moment.”
With regard to the new signings Christoph Baumgartner, Benjamin Sesko and Nicolas Seiwald, Eberl said: “We have already signed really good guys and will bring in other, extremely exciting players.” RB Leipzig have already managed to “catch blatant departures” in the past.
