It was to be an important day for those involved in the climate cause. Emmanuel Macron was he finally going to tackle the “fight of the century”, to use his words spoken during the in-between rounds of the 2022 presidential election? Was he going to endorse the whole of the ecological transition, with its constraints, its hopes too? On Wednesday July 5, the President of the Republic will hold a ” work meeting ” with his ministers on the issue of environmental planning. But there will be no great speech or detailed speech by the Head of State, as had been envisaged for a long time. “There will be no communication of the plan. To do so now would not be commensurate with the importance of this file for the French and the work done over the past year on the subject”argues the Elysée, not yet specifying when this speech is postponed.

For a few days, the entourage of the President of the Republic has been thinking about the advisability of maintaining this sequence because of the riots which are monopolizing the executive teams and mobilizing the attention of the French. Between the end of the pension reform and the presentation of the next budget in the fall, the macronists interested in this subject had identified this period as the most favorable for launching major climate projects.
