Apart from that, the accounts of the journalists were reportedly disabled for secretly monitoring Elon Musk’s every move and publishing news about him.
The UN and the European Union have strongly condemned Twitter for taking away media freedom by blocking the accounts of these journalists. In this case, UN Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications Melissa Blooming said, “The incident of blocking journalists’ accounts on Twitter is disturbing. At the same time, media freedom is not a toy.
A free press is the bedrock of democratic societies. It is an important tool in the fight against harmful misinformation.” Following this, the Commissioner of the European Union, Vera Jurova, said that Twitter should respect media freedom and basic rights, and Elon Musk should be careful about it. Twitter has also warned of sanctions under Europe’s new digital services law if it continues to overstep the boundaries.
