Economists are calling for more renewable energy infrastructure to be allowed in Girona

92.5% of the economists in the demarcation of Girona think that more infrastructure should be allowed of renewable energies in the regions of Girona, this is one of the conclusions drawn from the 2023 Winter Economic Situation Survey carried out between February 21 and March 10, 2023 by College of Economists of Catalonia.

Another question asked in this edition of the survey was the future of Barcelona airport. Among the alternatives that have appeared in the public debate on this subject, 29.6% of the Catalan economists surveyed consider that the most appropriate option is to increase the operational link with the airports of Girona and of Reus. After this, the most pointed options are to extend the third runway by 500 meters to the north and build a new runway over the sea. In both cases the partisan economists are 16.2%.

The dean of the College of Economists of Catalonia (CEC) Carles Puig de Travy and the technical manager of the CEC Economic Situation Survey Xavier Segura presented the main conclusions of the survey at a press conference this Wednesday. One of the elements that is always taken into account in the Economic Situation Survey of the College of Economists of Catalonia is the assessment of the economic situation. In this sense, an improvement is highlighted in relation to the previous survey at the end of 2022. In fact, 34.0% of economists consider that the Catalan economy is better now than a year ago, 33.3% think it is worse, while 31.7% think it is the samewhile in the autumn survey the percentages were, respectively, 29.5%, 41.1% and 27.1%.

Concern about inflation and production costs

With regard to the main problems affecting the Catalan economy, in the winter survey it appears as the main problem inflation and production costs, indicated as one of the three main problems by 62.0% of respondents. In second place appears, at a distance, the fiscal deficit, indicated by 38.6% of respondents.

The Winter Economic Situation Survey of 2023 has also consulted due to the concern about the negative impact that increases in price and cost increases can have on the Catalan economy. Almost all economists are concerned (96.4% concerned/very concerned), being at similar levels to previous surveys. However, 28.7% of respondents are very concerned, a percentage lower than last fall’s survey (38.4%) and even lower than it was in spring 2022 (47.0 %).
