Ecopetrol announced the closure of its operations at the Caño Sur production field, located in Puerto Gaitán, Meta, as a result of roadblocks that have prevented the normal evacuation of crude oil. This closure affects the production of approximately 45 thousand barrels of oil per day.

The company reported that the shutdown of this field is due to the fact that the maximum storage capacity was reached, and the blockades in the area have made it impossible land transportation of hydrocarbons.

In the coming hours, Ecopetrol will also shut down several production fields in other regions of the country, including Llanos Norte in Arauca, and Tisquirama, San Roque and Aullador in the Middle Magdalena, in addition to cluster 25-Nueva Esperanza in Meta.

The blockades are also affecting the transportation of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) produced in Cusiana and Cupiagua.Casanare, due to the accumulation of inventories that have not been able to be evacuated by land. This situation is added to the 15 recent attacks against the Caño Limón Coveñas and Bicentenario oil pipelines, and the seizure of the Gibraltar gas plant, which aggravates the difficulties in the hydrocarbon production and supply chain.

Despite this situation, Ecopetrol said it maintains a contingency plan to ensure the supply of gas and oil, and guarantee that the refineries continue to operate under the scheduled conditions. However, it warned that the situation could change if the blockades and disruptions to public order continue.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Transport “reiterates its invitation to continue the dialogue with the rank and file of the transport union. The Government is still waiting for a consensual response from the union to the proposals put forward by the ministers yesterday at the working table.”
