After four hours in a coffin, a 76-year-old woman who was pronounced dead by doctors in Ecuador showed signs of life. This was noticed by her family, where the coffin was temporarily placed. The woman eventually returned to hospital, the BBC news site reported, citing a statement from Ecuador’s Ministry of Health.

Seventy-six-year-old BellaMontoya was hospitalized Friday morning with a stroke. At noon, doctors told her son that she had died after failing to respond to CPR.

“When we took the casket to the house where the funeral was to be held, I heard a sound from inside. After I opened it, I saw my mother waving her hand,” Montoya’s son Gilber Balberán told El Universo. He added that he is only gradually realizing what happened. The woman is now in intensive care at the same hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Ecuador’s Ministry of Health has promised to investigate the situation. Montoya’s family plans to file a medical malpractice lawsuit. Relatives of the women are negotiating with the registry office, where Montoya is already registered as deceased.

The nun's body remained intact four years after death! Is this a miracle?

Cases where people do not respond to resuscitation and are declared dead, but subsequently show signs of life, happen due to medical malpractice, or in rare cases spontaneously, as can be the case with the so-called Lazarus syndrome, he writes server infobae.com. This rare phenomenon, according to the University of Valladolid, occurs in the delayed return of spontaneous blood circulation after the end of resuscitation.
