Athlete Maribel Caicedo became the latest Ecuadorian athlete to secure her Olympic ticket for the Paris Games, which will take place from July 26.
Caicedo set the record in the 110-meter hurdles event at the PAC-12 Track & Field Championships held this weekend in the United States. The 26-year-old athlete became the first sprinter to qualify for Paris, in what will be her first Olympic Games.
With Caicedo’s place in Paris, there are now 27 Ecuadorian athletes who have qualified for the Olympic Games in disciplines such as Athletics, Boxing, Modern Pentathlon, Olympic Shooting, Wrestling, Equestrian Sports, Cycling, Weightlifting and Open Water Swimming.
In the coming days, more athletes could qualify in disciplines such as Athletics, Boxing, Judo, Triathlon, BMX Cycling, etc. The Ecuadorian Olympic Committee (COE) hopes to reach 42 athletes present at the Paris Olympic event.
