Ecuador’s best result in the tournament was in Germany in 2006, when they were knocked out by England in the Round of 16 – the only time they reached the knockout stage.
Ecuador finished fourth in South American qualifying behind Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay, but will arrive in Qatar with great confidence. “We needed to believe it.
