The Minister of Public Health, José Ruales, represents Ecuador at the 76th World Health Assembly, which takes place in Geneva (Switzerland) from May 21 to 30, 2023. The World Health Organization (WHO) carries out this meeting every year, this time with the motto: WHO celebrates 75 years saving lives and promoting health for all.
The health authority will participate, on this occasion, as vice president for the Region of the Americas of the World Assembly. In this international meeting, where all the Member States, civil society and experts participate, issues related to the budget for the 2024-2025 programs of the Organization, the Global Strategy for the Health of Women, Children and Adolescents (2016- 2030), universal health coverage, WHO Global Action Plan on Promoting the Health of Refugees and Migrants (2019-2023), digital transformation, among other topics.
In the strategic round tables, the technical advisory teams will work on four fundamental pillars this year:
1. Universal health coverage for a billion more people.
2. Better protection against health emergencies for a billion more
of people.
3. Better health and well-being for a billion more people.
4. A more effective and efficient WHO that better supports countries.
Minister Ruales will participate in several high-impact bilateral meetings to discuss and exchange experiences on how Ecuador works on prevention and health promotion policies, strategies and programs to face diseases such as HIV – AIDS, Malaria, and address key issues such as food fortification and health promotion for migrants and refugees.
In addition, the minister will socialize in various spaces The Ten-Year Health Plan 2022-2031, which contains five main axes: equity in health, health promotion, preventive medicine, timely and quality care, and an integrated and efficient health system.
This world health meeting aims to direct new public policies led by the WHO, where strategies and financial plans that cover the annual programs of each country will also be adopted.
