Minister of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility Gabriela Sommerfeld called for a regional transnational organized democracy to combat transnational organized crime.

This was expressed by Minister Sommerfeld during the first plenary session of the 54th General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS), under the motto “Integration and security for the sustainable development of the region.”

For Ecuador, which is suffering the merciless onslaught of criminal groups, the motto of the current Assembly is a fitting reminder that the deterioration of security conditions in our countries is leading us to integrate even more because, otherwise, the development of the region will be nothing more than a pipe dream.

According to Foreign Minister Sommerfeld, given the need for integration for the security and sustainable development of the region, Ecuador highlights the importance of the joint work of the international community to achieve a future of development, peace and tranquility. In this regard, she underlined what President Daniel Noboa recently said: “The transformative power of dialogue and cooperation should not be underestimated.”
