In a closed meeting of the United Nations Security Council (HIM) this Friday, Ecuador presented a text that asks that Venezuela and Guyana reach a peaceful solution to the dispute over the territory of Essequibo.
The document also calls for respect for the rules of international law. The collegiate did not comment at the end and there was a conversation between the body’s members about the current situation, including a history of the dispute between the two countries.
Ecuador proposed a Council declaration text on the topic, which will be analyzed by the members. According to a CNN report, sources reported that this is not a resolution.
The document will have to be negotiated between the members of the Security Council.

Venezuela appoints “authority” over region

One of the decrees was the designation of Alexi José Rodríguez Cabello as the sole authority of the State of Guyana Essequiba.
The dictator also appointed Delcy Rodríguez as “supreme head of the High Defense Commission of Essequibo”.
“Essequibo and Venezuela are the winners. You see the reaction of imperialism and the right, do you? Ignoring the will of the people, ignoring the exercise of popular sovereignty,” said Maduro.

Guyana’s President Irfaan Ali said on Thursday 7 which intends to take the issue of Venezuela’s dispute over the territory of Essequibo to the UN Security Council “so that this collegiate adopts appropriate measures.

The US government announced the military maneuvers to “strengthen the security partnership with Guyana”. United States military aircraft flew over the Essequibo region and the rest of Guyana.
