Through a statement, the Foreign Ministry of Ecuador announced the initiation of a lawsuit against Mexico before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for alleged violations of international law, as well as for insulting statements.
According to the office shared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility of the South American country, points out the following:

“The agent of Ecuador presented the lawsuit against Mexico at the International Court of Justice for violations of a series of international obligations due to the conduct of that country since December 17, 2023. The lawsuit also refers to the insulting statements made by the president of Mexico.”
The Government of Ecuador demands that the International Court declare that Mexico has failed to comply with the article 41 of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961, in addition to the non-intervention of our country in the internal affairs of the Government of Daniel Noboa.

Another of the main statements by the South American country is the having given asylum to the former vice president, Jorge Glasat the Mexican embassy, arguing the legal process against him for various crimes during his administration.
Ecuador accuses AMLO of “injurious statements”
In addition to pointing out the alleged violation of the principle of non-intervention, the Government of Daniel Noboa accused the president Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) for having made “false and insulting” statements about the electoral process held in 2023.
Let us remember that Mexico previously filed a complaint before the same organization for the invasion of the embassy in Quito and requested the expulsion of Ecuador before the UN. The ICJ will be in charge of analyzing all the evidence presented by both parties to make a decision and issue the appropriate sanctions.
