On the morning of Friday, July 12, the Minister of Economic and Social Inclusion, Zaida Rovira Jurado, visited the rural parish of José Luis Tamayo, in the canton of Salinas, in the province of Santa Elena, to reaffirm the commitment of the Government of New Ecuador to the most vulnerable population and announce the inclusion of 234 new beneficiaries of bonuses and pensions delivered by the Ministry of Economic and Social Inclusion (MIES) to families in situations of poverty and extreme poverty.

Minister Rovira, who was accompanied by several local authorities, from the province and from this State portfolio, visited several sectors of this parish to inform the new beneficiaries of the good news and deliver this government financial support. Here, she pointed out that this initiative arises from the need to protect the most vulnerable sectors, especially those who live in dispersed or remote communities and who were neglected by previous governments.

Later, an activity was held at the stadium in this town with the presence of more than 1,500 people. In this place, the minister stated that these decisions are part of the economic and social inclusion policies that the government of President Daniel Noboa promotes, generating a minimum level of protection and better opportunities for this sector of the population. “It is time for the State’s resources to be truly directed to those who need them most,” she added.

The highest authority of the MIES ratified the commitment to continue working for priority groups. “So that citizens see that this Ecuador that resolves will go knocking on their door to reach them with the necessary attention and help,” he said.

For Nancy Tomalá, a new beneficiary of the Mis Mejores Años pension, this government support represents a great help, since with this financial resource she will be able to cover several of her needs, she mentioned. This pension is USD 100 per month and is aimed at elderly people in extreme poverty.

It should be noted that, from December 2023 to June 2024, a total of 48,121 people in situations of vulnerability, poverty and extreme poverty have benefited from vouchers and pensions of different kinds in the province of Santa Elena. The investment for the delivery of these economic transfers has represented an investment of more than USD 20 million.

Likewise, and as part of the initiative Ecuador that resolves knocks on your door, Minister Rovira and the Mayor of Salinas, Dennis Córdova, signed two technical-economic cooperation agreements for the care of priority and vulnerable groups in this canton. One will have an investment of around USD 44 thousand and will allow for the care of around 120 people with disabilities in the home modality; while the other is around USD 10 thousand and will benefit 125 older adults with care, with the modality of socialization and meeting spaces.
