The runner Luisa González and the businessman Daniel Noboa officially started this Sunday the campaign towards the second presidential round on October 15 in Ecuador. “During this period they will be able to use the Electoral Promotion Fund for the second round and disseminate their proposals in the written press, radio, television, billboards and digital media in an equitable and equal manner,” reported the National Electoral Council (CNE) in its Web page.

The electoral campaign will run until October 12, three days before the voting that will take place throughout the country and in electoral districts abroad. At this official start of the campaign, González paused his tours through the different regions of the country and remained in his native province of Manabí. Noboa, son of banana magnate Álvaro Noboa, was also close to his entourage in the coastal province of Santa Elena.

It was their political organizations that moved in various jurisdictions with the promotion of candidacies that, above all, try to attract the young vote, something that translates into the great activity they carry out on social networks. The Citizen Revolution movement that has González as its candidate organized tours of supporters in some streets and squares of Quito, trying to seduce the undecided vote, actions that were replicated in other cities in the country.

Noboa’s National Democratic Action movement (ADN) mobilized in the city of Cuenca, in the southern Andean region, articulated with a “door-to-door” campaign to visit voters and a caravan of cars through some streets of Cuenca. One of the milestones of the campaign will be the debate between González and Noboa scheduled for October 1, when they will have the opportunity to present their proposals on the economy, security, society and politics to the entire country.

Just over 13 million Ecuadorians are entitled to go to the polls next Sunday, October 15, to elect the country’s new president between González and Noboa. Whoever wins must complete the term (2021-2025) of the current ruler, the right-wing Guillermo Lasso. The climate of the extraordinary presidential and legislative elections in August were marked by a wave of unusual criminal violence that included the murder of a candidate.
