CASE. –

Ecuador will not insist on its request to Mexico to enter that country’s embassy in Quito and capture former vice president Jorge Glas. This was confirmed by Mónica Palencia, Minister of the Government and Interior, two weeks after the Foreign Ministry made a formal request to Mexico, which was verbally denied.

Ecuador will not insist on entering the Mexican Embassy to capture Jorge Glas, announced Mónica Palencia

“Mexico’s position is very clear, it has said no, I consider it even indelicacy to continue insisting when they have told you no. The issue is now strictly diplomatic and will have to be resolved in that sense. I have been very clear in saying what my position is, I simply have an arrest warrant to execute,” she said.

Although the Foreign Ministry supported its letter to Mexico with a request made by Minister Palencia, she denied it. She pointed out that as leader of the Police at the Control surveillance level, she asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the possibilities of opening a dialogue with the Mexican embassy regarding the detention of Jorge Glas.

The minister confirmed that Glas remains at the Mexican embassy in Ecuador as a guest while his asylum is defined. Ecuador will be respectful of her decision, the minister said, but she hopes that the request will be denied, based on the international agreements signed by both nations.

“We are countries that have international agreements, and what we hope is that the decision is made in accordance with international asylum rules,” he commented.

Otherwise, Mónica Palencia said that President Daniel Noboa has the right to deny any safe passage for his departure to Mexico; country with which according to her, Ecuador maintains excellent relations. /The Telegraph.
