In an interview with Radio La Red, the president of the Ecuadorian Cycling Federation (Santiago Rosero) confirmed that they have started talks to request an additional Olympic quota in the men’s road race for Paris 2024.

Rosero said that together with the Ecuadorian Olympic Committee (COE), they have begun efforts to seek an Olympic quota in the men’s road race.

Asked about this issue, the FEC president said: “We are talking jointly with the COE, so that we get another place for the Olympic Games. It is not easy, but it is on the right track. We want Richard Carapaz to go and Jhonatan Narvaez.”

“We have presented our arguments, we have the current Olympic champion (Carapaz), he would have to go to defend his medal. In addition, we have the last winner of the Pan American Games (Narváez). That is why there is an openness to talk.”

Rosero added: We hope that the International Olympic Committee will give us its final answer. We are working hard to obtain that additional quota. Richard Carapaz and Jhonatan Narváez know what we are doing.”

For now, Ecuador only has one Olympic spot in the road race, due to its position in the UCI ranking until October 2023. Jonathan Narváez and Richard Carapaz are in a direct dispute for this ticket to Paris.
