In a major step forward for the export of Ecuadorian products, the Government of the United Kingdom has officially recognised the Denominations of Origin (DO) of Lojano Origin Coffee, Galapagos Coffee, Transkutukú Peanuts and Palora Amazonian Pitahaya.

This recognition certifies the exceptional characteristics and quality of these products, especially benefiting small producers in Loja, Galápagos, Morona Santiago and Pastaza.

Denominations of Origin are names of specific geographical places that designate products whose qualities, reputation or other characteristics are essentially due to their geographical origin, including natural and human factors. This type of certification is a type of Intellectual Property Right that guarantees the authenticity and quality of the product, something highly valued in demanding markets such as the United Kingdom.

The UK’s endorsement of these DOs will allow Ecuadorian producers to position their products more easily in the competitive British market. DO products usually have access to premium distribution channels, high-end supermarkets and specialist shops, which can increase demand and exports. In addition, this certification allows producers to obtain better prices for their products due to the perception of exclusivity and high quality associated with DOs.

Currently, Ecuador has seven products recognized with Denomination of Origin: the four recently endorsed by the United Kingdom, in addition to Miske, Sombrero de Montecristi and Cacao Arriba. This achievement reflects the dedication and effort of Ecuadorian producers to maintain the quality and authenticity of their products, opening up new opportunities in international markets.

Ecuador’s efforts to obtain this recognition underline the importance of DOs in international trade and the ability of Ecuadorian products to compete in demanding markets. This advance represents a significant opportunity for local producers and strengthens Ecuador’s presence in the global market.
