Singer Ed Sheeran has openly attributed a important change in his lifestyle to becoming a father,stating that parenthood has motivated him to prioritize “making good decisions.” The 34-year-old’s comments follow a year marked by increased public attention to his fitness journey, including a viral TikTok video demonstrating his reformer pilates routine.
From Pizza and Beer to Prioritizing Wellness
Sheeran shared his reflections in an interview wiht Men’s Health UK, explaining that his desire to be a responsible parent coincided with a commitment to improving his physical and mental well-being. “I became a dad. It all came in at the same time of wanting to be a responsible dad, wanting to feel and look good,” he said.
Despite acknowledging a past penchant for less healthy habits,Sheeran emphasized a shift in priorities. “I think, underneath it all, I am a pizza-eating, beer-guzzling smoker, but that’s just not my reality as a parent in my 30s,” he stated. “I think that you have to make good decisions.”
A Family of Four
Sheeran and his wife, Cherry Seaborn, welcomed their first child, Lyra, in 2020. Two years later, in 2022, they expanded their family with the birth of their second child, Jupiter. The couple married in December 2018.
Inspired by Stormzy’s Dedication
Sheeran also revealed that observing the rigorous training regimen of rapper Stormzy served as a pivotal moment in his own pursuit of wellness.”I look at someone like Stormzy and the training that he goes through to go on tour and that was definitely a catalyst,” Sheeran explained.
He recounted a specific instance in 2021, witnessing Stormzy perform 100 press-ups before taking the stage.”I went to play with him in 2021 and he was doing a hundred press-ups before he went on stage and I was staring at him like, ‘What the f*** is this about?'”
Stormzy, whose real name is Michael Ebenezer Owuo Junior, has collaborated with Sheeran on several triumphant tracks, including “Own It” and “Take Me Back To London,” and they first performed together at the 2017 Brit Awards.
Mental Wellness and a Past Unhealthy Lifestyle
Sheeran also reflected on the impact of his lifestyle during his 20s, describing it as “pretty unhealthy.” He underscored the strong connection between physical wellness and mental health. “I do think that wellness is a direct mirror to mental health and the way you feel,” he said. “I always felt like shit within myself; I’d wake up and look in the mirror and just feel gross.”
