Edina Public Schools Takes Precautionary Measures After Concerning Voicemail Threat

Edina Public Schools made the decision to close multiple campuses on Wednesday following a disturbing voicemail message that was left on the school’s voicemail. Officials are currently working closely with the Edina Police Department to investigate the credibility of the voicemail’s content.

The school district released an update to staff, parents, and guardians stating, “The Edina Police Department, in partnership with the Bloomington Police Department, investigated and was able to identify one 10-year-old girl and one 11-year-old girl in connection to the voicemail statements. The girls are not current or former students in Edina, and police have assured us that ‘there is no threat to our schools.’ All after-school activities will continue as scheduled, and classes will resume tomorrow across our buildings.”

City officials revealed that the two children in question have been released to their parents and the case will be presented to the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office. It is currently unclear what consequences the children may face for their involvement.

In response to the voicemail threat, the Edina Community Center (ECC), Southview Middle School, and Concord Elementary campuses have been temporarily closed as a precautionary measure. This also includes the closures of Normandale Elementary, Early Learning Center, and Spanish Dual Language.

This recent incident adds to the growing concerns surrounding school safety in the Edina community. Just last Friday, both Edina High School and Valley Middle School switched to online learning due to another threat. A 17-year-old was apprehended after posting a video of himself with a gun outside Edina High School.

The Edina Police Department is taking these threats seriously and actively investigating each incident. They urge the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or threats.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to stay informed through the official channels provided by Edina Public Schools. Updates will be provided as new information becomes available.

In the face of these unsettling incidents, it is crucial for the community to come together and support one another. The safety and well-being of students and staff remain the top priority for Edina Public Schools, and they are implementing necessary measures to ensure a secure learning environment for all.
