The case of the plane crash that resulted in the death of former governor Eduardo Campos (PSB) nine years ago gained new developments after an interview given by the politician’s lawyer to Folha de Pernambuco. Antônio Campos announced the request to reopen the investigation and raised the possibility that his brother was murdered.
“Brazil needs to know the cause of the accident, if it had political connotations and if there is a real possibility that Eduardo Campos was assassinated”, he declared.
The accident, which happened in Santos (SP), took the life of Eduardo Campos and six other people who were on board an aircraft. The circumstances of the incident changed the electoral course of that year, ending in the re-election of Dilma Rousseff (PT-MG), who was subsequently impeached.
Antônio Campos revealed that he is preparing a petition to join the 4th Federal Court of São Paulo, with the aim of asking for the reopening of the episode. He bases his request on evidence that the accident was not simply an air tragedy. Lawyer and expert Carlos Camacho have been investigating the case since the beginning and claim that they have gathered new relevant evidence in recent months. In addition, they point out the inconsistencies present in the inconclusive investigation conducted by the Federal Police.
The petition will be filed on August 13, the nine-year anniversary of Eduardo Campos’ death. Antônio Campos also informed that he will forward the document to the Attorney General of the Republic, Augusto Aras, and to the Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino. However, he pointed out that the possibility of involving the PT in the accident has not yet been proven, and he prefers not to make hasty accusations.
The lawyer claimed to have achieved a victory in the process when the 4th Federal Court of Santos issued an official letter demanding greater agility from the Ministry of Justice in complying with the rogatory letter so that the aircraft manufacturer, located in the United States, presents the technical production on the crash from the jet.
