(24News) The positive results of the digitalization of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) have started to emerge, in the last 4 months, tax refund frauds worth 800 billion rupees have been caught.
Under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, a 4-hour-long important review meeting was held regarding reforms and digitization of the Federal Board of Revenue. The meeting was briefed on reforms in Inland Revenue and Customs. Briefing was also given on the progress of the last 8 weeks, the participants were informed that the digitization process of FBR is being supervised by McKinsey, a consultant of international repute.
The participants were briefed that there are 83579 tax cases pending in various courts and tribunals worth 3.2 trillion rupees, various steps have been taken by the current government to resolve tax cases, during the last 4 months. 63 cases worth about 44 billion rupees have been settled by various courts.
The meeting was briefed that 4.9 lakh people who can afford to pay tax have been identified using modern technology, 1.5 lakh retailers have been registered through FBR trader friendly mobile phone application till now from 1st April 2024. .
On this occasion, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that he will further improve the tax refund system, it is possible to increase revenue through reforms in FBR, the unnecessary delay in many projects of FBR regarding reforms is very unfortunate. Sharif directed that among the 4.9 million people who can afford to pay taxes, the rich and capitalists should be brought into the tax net on a priority basis and no additional burden should be placed on the poor.
The Prime Minister said that consultation with the retailers should be continued to make the system more efficient.
