Efficacy of covaxin is only 50%; Corrected Lancet Report

by time news

New Delhi: Kovacin, a locally developed Kovid vaccine developed in India, is only 50 per cent effective, according to a study by the international publication Lancet. The report said that the spread of the Delta variant and the rapid spread of the virus during the second wave may have reduced the effectiveness of the vaccine.

An interim report released earlier this month by Lancet stated that Kovacsin was 77 percent effective. However, it was not until the final study was completed that it was found to be less effective. The vaccine, developed by Bharat Biotech, was approved by the World Health Organization earlier this month. Permitted for use by those over 18 years of age.
