Manufacturers and distributors will be scrutinized by the executive “to verify that they respect the Egalim law”.

“I understand the anger and suffering of farmers”assured this Wednesday morning on Europe 1 the Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire. “What they are asking for is justice”he adds, determined to apply respect “rules for everyone” pour “preserve farmers’ income”. Bruno Le Maire “thus launched on Tuesday four pre-injunctions to four industrial groups which do not respect the conditions of the Egalim law”. Promulgated in 2018, it aims to ensure “the balance of commercial relations in the agricultural sector and healthy and sustainable food”specifies the Ministry of Agriculture on its website.

“I will be uncompromising”

On the distributor side, the Minister of the Economy will “launch 500 checks on the 5 main distributors”. “We will go through each of the provisions and check that they respect the Egalim law, particularly for the remuneration of farmers”. “I will be uncompromising about respecting the rules”insists Bruno Le Maire, as commercial negotiations between distributors and manufacturers conclude this Wednesday evening.

The European purchasing centers, at the heart of the debates, are also targeted by the minister: “I will launch and strengthen specific controls on European power plants in relation to the Egalim law.” Bruno Le Maire also recalls that the rules of this law apply in France but also to these power plants located in other European countries. He notably recalls having already sanctioned the Leclerc group to the tune of six million euros for breaches of the Egalim law. “I have never had an arm that trembles to make it respected”he concludes.
