Turkey‘s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said that his country and Egypt agree on the unity of Libya, and are working to find radical solutions to stop the war in Sudan.
During a press conference following his meeting with his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry, in Istanbul today, Fidan stressed that cooperation between Ankara and Cairo reflects great benefit on the peoples of the two countries and the entire region.
Fidan pointed out that a joint declaration was signed in Cairo regarding the restructuring of the high-level Strategic Cooperation Council between the two countries, explaining that the visit of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to Turkey on the occasion of the high-level Strategic Cooperation Council meeting is on the agenda.
In response to a question about the possible repercussions of the tension between Tel Aviv and Tehran on the region, Fidan said, “The Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories and the unconditional Western support for it is one of the main causes of the problem of instability in the Middle East.”
Fidan stressed the need to focus on this fundamental problem, saying: “Our first priority must be ending the Israeli occupation and implementing the two-state solution formula.”
He warned that “if this does not happen, tension in the region will continue to escalate,” explaining that everything that happens in Palestine moves global fault lines, and that what happens in the region would affect every part of the world.
The visit comes within the framework of the steps taken by Egypt and Turkey to enhance the pace of cooperation and raise the level of bilateral relations, and follow up on the implementation of what was agreed upon during the recent meeting of the leaderships of the two countries in Cairo, in addition to coordination and consultation on ways to confront challenges and crises on the regional and international arenas.
