The local newspaper “Al-Masry Al-Youm” quoted a source in the Ministry of Electricity as saying that “the government is moving towards increasing electricity prices during the coming period, after the current prices ended at the end of last month.”
The source said: “It is expected that the new electricity prices will be announced during the coming period,” noting that “a decision must be issued so that the monthly bill can be calculated at the new prices.”
Al-Masry Al-Youm quoted a source in the Ministry of Electricity as saying: “The ministry is currently preparing a memorandum that includes the quantities of fuel needed by power generation stations to submit to the Council of Ministers during the current week, so that the crisis does not recur again, while providing financial appropriations for this.”
In the context, a responsible government source revealed to the newspaper, “The arrival of a second shipment of liquefied gas from the contracted shipments, to the “SUMED” port in Ain Sokhna, as part of the government’s efforts to eliminate the electricity crisis once and for all.”
The Egyptian government has been cutting off electricity regularly for a year, due to an energy crisis accompanied by a shortage of foreign currency, which has led to a lack of fuel needed to operate power plants.
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced that his country had contracted for all fuel shipments sufficient to end power outages during the summer, from July to September.
