Egyptian media reported that “the new government of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly will witness changes that include new ministers of defense and foreign affairs.”

The Egyptian Extra News channel said, “Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi decided to promote Lieutenant General Abdel Majeed Saqr and appoint him as Minister of Defense, succeeding Lieutenant General Mohamed Ahmed Zaki.”

According to the channel, “Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry was excluded from the new government formation, as Ambassador Badr Abdel Aati was assigned the position of Foreign Minister after merging it with the Ministry of Immigration.”

According to the newspaper “Youm7”, “the new government has included the ministries of transportation and industry under one umbrella, to be managed by Lieutenant General Kamel Al-Wazir, Minister of Transportation in the previous government, with his appointment as Deputy Prime Minister, and Khaled Abdel Ghaffar retaining the position of Minister of Health, while also holding the position of Deputy Prime Minister.”

Rania Al-Mashat was also reappointed as Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, after merging the two ministries, Amr Talaat as Minister of Communications, Ashraf Sobhi as Minister of Youth and Sports, Hani Sweilem as Minister of Irrigation, Ayman Ashour as Minister of Higher Education, and Yasmine Fouad as Minister of Environment.

The change affected the ministries of finance, petroleum, electricity, and supply, as “Karim Badawi took over the position of Minister of Petroleum, Ahmed Kojok took over the Ministry of Finance, Mahmoud Esmat took over the Ministry of Electricity, and Sherif Farouk took over the Ministry of Supply,” according to the Extra News channel.

The new government also witnessed the revival of the investment portfolio and the appointment of Hassan Al-Khatib as its minister, after it had been cancelled for years, while Maya Morsi took over the Ministry of Social Solidarity, Adnan Fanjari the Ministry of Justice, Osama Al-Azhari the Ministry of Endowments, Mohamed Abdel Latif the Ministry of Education, Sameh Al-Hafni the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Alaa Farouk the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, and Mohamed Gebran the Ministry of Labor.

Manal Awad Mikhail became Minister of Local Development, while Sherif El-Sherbiny became Minister of Housing, Mahmoud Fawzy Minister of Parliamentary and Legal Affairs, Mohamed Gebran Minister of Labor, Sherif Fathy Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Mohamed Ibrahim Minister of the Business Sector, Mohamed Salah El-Din Minister of Military Production, and Ahmed Hano Minister of Culture.

Earlier, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly submitted his resignation to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.

Al-Ahram electronic portal said, “Al-Sisi assigned Madbouly to form a new government of distinguished competencies, experiences and capabilities, working to achieve a number of goals, most notably preserving the determinants of Egyptian national security in light of regional and international challenges.”

Al-Sisi also directed that “the new government place the issue of building the Egyptian human being at the top of the list of priorities, especially in the areas of health and education, and continue efforts to develop political participation, as well as in the areas of security, stability and combating terrorism in a way that enhances what has been achieved in this regard, and develops the files of culture, national awareness, and moderate religious discourse in a way that consolidates the concepts of citizenship and societal peace.”

The Egyptian President stressed that the new government should continue “the path of economic reform, with a focus on attracting and increasing local and foreign investments, encouraging private sector growth, and making every effort to limit rising prices and inflation and control markets, within the framework of comprehensive development of the state’s economic performance in all sectors.” President Sisi tasked the current government with continuing to run business and perform its duties and tasks until the formation of the new government.
