At least 97 people were injured in a new train accident involving a passenger train near Cairo, Egypt. According to reports from the authorities, four carriages of the train, which departed from Cairo and headed for the Nile Delta province of Mansoura, derailed as it traveled near the city of Qalyubia. An internal investigation is underway to determine the causes of the accident which occurs a few days after another derailment in which 15 people were injured.
According to the local press, the conductor of the train, his assistant and eight other railway officials were arrested. On 26 March two trains collided, killing 19 people. In February, 31 were the victims of a fire caused two years ago by a locomotive that, without a guide, crashed into a platform at the Cairo station.
