Egyptian Foreign Minister receives commander of European naval operation in Red Sea

Egyptian Foreign Minister ​Badr Abdel Aati received, on Wednesday, the commander‌ of the European naval operation in the Red ⁤Sea “Aspedes“, Vassilis Gurbaris, at⁤ the ministry’s headquarters.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister stressed the ​direct impact‌ of security threats on​ navigation in the Red Sea on the Egyptian economy due to the huge decline⁤ in revenues from the Suez Canal, which makes Egypt one of the countries in the world most affected by the current situation.

The‍ official spokesman ⁣for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration and Director of the Public Diplomacy Department, Ambassador⁣ Ahmed Abu Zeid, stated that Dr. Badr Abdel Aati, during the meeting, expressed satisfaction with the existing cooperation​ with the leadership ​of Operation “Aspedes” and Egypt’s support for its missions due to the defensive nature of its mandate, within the framework of the increasing challenges facing navigation in the Red Sea.

He stressed the importance of concerted efforts to create a safe environment ⁣for ships ⁤to pass ⁣through the Red Sea and reassure international shipping companies.

The official spokesman ‌added that Minister Abdel-Ati reviewed, during the meeting, Egypt’s concerns regarding the current escalation in the region in light of recent tensions, and its impact on ⁣maritime ​shipping in the Red Sea and‌ the Suez Canal.
