Egypt Partners with French Dassault to Manufacture Rafale Aircraft Locally

Under the supervision of Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, the head of the Arab Organization for Industrialization, Major General Mokhtar Abdel-Latif, announced a partnership with the French Dassault to manufacture Rafale aircraft in Egypt.

Major General Mokhtar said that a school was established in Hiloan in coordination with Dassault to train students to manufacture fighter planes and that three experts from the Dassault company are participating in the training. He added that the Dassault company will produce components and spare parts for the Rafale aircraft at the Egyptian military industry factories, in preparation for the local production of the entire aircraft in the future.

Egypt has signed two contracts with France for the purchase of “Raphael” fighter jets from the Dassault company. The first contract was signed in 2015 and included the purchase of 24 Rafale aircraft, and the second contract was announced in May 2021, including the purchase of 30 Rafale aircraft, bringing the total number of fighter jets Egypt has purchased from Dassault to 54 Rafale jets.

Egypt sees the Rafale as a highly capable fighter jet that can carry out long-range missions and carry advanced weapon systems.

Some military analysts linked the Rafale deal to the Renaissance Dam crisis in Ethiopia and saw it as a message from Egypt that it was preparing to protect its national security.

The partnership between Egypt and Dassault to manufacture Rafale aircraft locally is seen as a significant step towards enhancing Egypt’s military capabilities and supporting its national security.
