Monday, November 13, eight teenagers were arrested as part of an investigation into anti-Semitic songs or comments filmed in the Paris metro on October 31, according to the Paris prosecutor’s office, confirming information from the Parisian. The teenagers are questioned by the railway network brigade. None of them being domiciled in Paris, the Bobigny and Nanterre public prosecutor’s offices will be competent to make criminal decisions.

On October 31, teenagers making anti-Semitic comments were filmed in the metro, obviously on line 3, and reported to the public prosecutor’s office by the Police Prefecture, the RATP and the International League against Racism and Anti-Semitism.

Nearly 1,250 anti-Semitic acts recorded in France

The investigation, entrusted to the Regional Transport Service, has been opened for “apology of terrorism”, “public insult on the grounds of belonging or not belonging, real or supposed, to an ethnic group, a nation, a race or a specific religion” and “public incitement to hatred, violence or racial discrimination”.

Nearly 1,250 anti-Semitic acts have been recorded in the country according to the authorities since the start of the war triggered by the Hamas massacres in Israel on October 7. On Sunday, more than 182,000 people marched in France, including 105,000 in Paris, during marches against anti-Semitism, according to authorities.
