Eighty people were injured when a bull hit them, killing a young man

At least 80 people were injured in a bullfight at the Madurai Avanyapuram Jallikattu competition.

Avanyapuram Jallikkattu was held today as the first jallikkattu competition in Madurai district on the eve of Pongal festival.

Madurai District Collector Anish Sehgar was present on the occasion. Murthy and Finance Minister Palanivel Thiagarajan flagged off at 7.30 am.

According to the regulations of the Government of Tamil Nadu, only those who have been vaccinated in two installments are allowed. A medical team led by Raja, the Chief Physician of the Madurai Corporation, examined the cowboys and made them participate in the Jallikattu competition.

Similarly, a medical team led by Natraj Kumar, Associate Director, Veterinary Services, inspected the bulls and sent the eligible bulls to the competition.

The Jallikkattu competition was held in 7 rounds. 50 players participated in each round. Winners and bulls not caught on the field were presented with numerous prizes including gold, cot bureau calf, bicycle, air cooler, refrigerator, washing machine, and eversilver utensils.

Preliminary reports said 48 people were injured in the match. According to a health official, 39 cowherds, 24 bull owners and 17 spectators were injured in the Madurai Avanyapuram Jallikkattu competition, injuring a total of 80 people.
