The non-commercial project, which is copyrighted by universities and students, was attended by 60 professors and lecturers and about 1,000 students from Argentina, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Chile, Peru, Venezuela, Uruguay, USA, China, Colombia, Denmark, Finland , Sweden, Germany, India, Indonesia, Iran, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Mozambique, Russia and South Africa. Assaf Admon – Director of the Eilat-Eilot Regional Environmental Unit Notes that the posters in the campaign show environmental pollution issues at sea and beaches and the damage caused by disposable utensils, straws, plastic bags and cigarette butts to seabirds, fish and marine animals and to the contamination of microplastics and plastic particles that get into the food we eat. Assaf also notes that the campaign is in line with the many actions that the city of Eilat is carrying out to protect the sea and that it was the first to lead legislation to ban the use of plastic in the Red Sea. During Passover, there will also be activities to protect the sea with the help of the “Shomrei Hamifratz” youth movement and through information on the beaches, distribution of garbage bags, cones for collecting cigarette butts on the beaches and more.
