In a caidal tent set up for this humanitarian initiative initiated in partnership with the Casablanca-Settat Regional Blood Transfusion Center, two medical teams take turns every day from 3 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. to ensure the smooth running of the operation.

“Each blood donation can save several lives,” assured Dr. Anass Abdellaoui, from the Blood Center entity under the Mohammed VI Foundation for Sciences and Health, before specifying in a statement to MAP, that each of the components of this liquid of life (red blood cells, plasma, platelets) is used for specific medical needs.

On waiting benches facing a beach crowded with vacationers, dozens of potential donors are informed of the eligibility criteria for giving blood and other medical information.

”This initiative, which has met with great success, reflects the commitment of the Blood Center of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Sciences and Health and its mobilization to save lives,” he stressed, adding that it is also an opportunity to raise awareness among the general public about the vital importance of blood donation.

With figures to support this, he specifies that 103 bags of blood were collected on the first day, counting on more than a thousand by the end of the campaign, in order to be able to meet the growing and urgent demand that coincides with the summer period and at the same time replenish the stock of blood and its derivatives at the local and regional levels.

Responding immediately to this humanitarian appeal, Mrs Nadia Gabsi, a 53-year-old blood donor, believes that “giving blood is giving life”.

“Every day, thousands of people need blood transfusions to survive, which is why it is crucial to be aware of the importance of donating blood regularly,” she told MAP, visibly enthusiastic and satisfied with the duty accomplished.

This is the 5th blood collection campaign that the Mohammed VI Foundation for Science and Health has organized since the beginning of this year, in the Doukkala region, as part of a national blood donation campaign initiated in partnership with the Regional Blood Transfusion Center of Casablanca. Objective: to respond to emergency situations and replenish stocks during periods of high demand.
