Interview Between Time.news Editor and Luis Jaramillo
Time.news Editor (TNE): Welcome, everyone, to another exciting edition of our interview series! Today, we have a very special guest—acclaimed author Luis Jaramillo, who’s visiting Brave Books in El Paso for a unique evening dedicated to literature. Luis, it’s a pleasure to have you here!
Luis Jaramillo (LJ): Thank you! I’m thrilled to be in El Paso and at Brave Books. It’s such a vibrant community of readers and writers!
TNE: Absolutely! Brave Books has become a cultural hub in central El Paso. Can you tell us what it means to you to hold an event in such a special place?
LJ: It’s incredibly meaningful. Brave Books isn’t just a bookstore; it’s a gathering place where stories come to life and where a community connects. In today’s world, fostering connections through storytelling is more important than ever. I’m just honored to be part of that experience.
TNE: Speaking of storytelling, your works often delve into rich cultural themes. How do your personal experiences influence your writing?
LJ: My experiences as a Latino in America play a significant role in my storytelling. I aim to capture the nuances of identity, belonging, and the multifaceted nature of our lives in this country. Every character I create carries a piece of my narrative, along with the stories of those around me.
TNE: That’s beautifully said. What can attendees expect from your evening at Brave Books?
LJ: I’m really looking forward to sharing insights into my writing process and the inspiration behind my latest work. We’ll also have an interactive session where I encourage questions and discussions. I believe that literature thrives in dialogue, and I can’t wait to hear from the audience.
TNE: Interaction sounds exciting! What themes do you hope resonate most with the readers?
LJ: I hope to explore themes of resilience and hope. In times of uncertainty, stories can offer solace and a sense of belonging. I want people to walk away with the understanding that their stories are vital and worth sharing.
TNE: That’s a powerful message. As an author, how do you feel about the current reading landscape? Are people more inclined to engage with literature now, or do you see it as a challenge with the rise of digital distractions?
LJ: It’s a mixed bag, honestly. While digital distractions are ever-present, I’ve noticed a resurgence in readers looking for genuine, immersive experiences. People crave connection, and literature provides that in a profound way—much more than a quick scroll through social media could offer.
TNE: Rightly said! What advice would you give to aspiring writers, especially those from diverse backgrounds?
LJ: Stay true to your voice and your story. Your experiences are valid, and they can add depth to the literary field. Don’t be afraid to tackle difficult themes—your perspective matters. Find your community of fellow writers and readers; they’ll be your support system along the way.
TNE: Wonderful advice, Luis. One last question—what does the future hold for you? Are there any upcoming projects you’re particularly excited about?
LJ: I’m currently working on a novel that continues to explore themes of identity and community, but through a completely different lens. I’m excited to push myself as a writer and see how this journey unfolds.
TNE: We can’t wait to hear more about it! Thank you so much for joining us today, Luis. Your insights are not only engaging but also inspiring. Best of luck with your event at Brave Books!
LJ: Thank you for having me! I hope to see many of you at the event!
TNE: Absolutely, and to our audience—be sure to mark your calendars for this special evening with Luis Jaramillo at Brave Books. You won’t want to miss it!
