El Salvador has established itself as one of the most visited countries, as reflected in the increase in the movement of national and international passengers at the San Óscar Arnulfo Romero y Galdámez International Airport of El Salvador.

This is according to data from the Autonomous Executive Port Commission (CEPA), which indicates that, between January 1 and August 18, 2024, the air terminal registered a 24% increase in passenger movement compared to the same period in 2023.

During the period in question, the airport exceeded 3.4 million arriving, departing and connecting passengers who were assisted by the different government institutions at the terminal. “We have reached 3.4 million thanks to different sporting events that have taken place in our country, such as basketball and football, as well as the arrival of our diaspora for the Easter and August holidays,” said the freelancer.

CEPA also highlighted that the increase in passengers is driven by the security that currently exists in the country, which attracts tourists who come to the country to visit different tourist destinations.

He also highlighted that the boost in the tourism sector, the increase in security and modern services encourage passengers to use the airport as a connecting destination, which in turn allows airlines to maintain their occupancy level by connecting with different international destinations.

“These figures are the result of President Nayib Bukele’s successful strategies in terms of security, tourism, and investment in airport infrastructure and connectivity,” said Federico Anliker, president of CEPA. The official added that the Government remains committed to maintaining and exceeding the quality and expectations of passengers.
