El Salvador celebrates a year without homicides under the government of Nayib Bukele

The country recorded its fourth consecutive day without murders, and added eight days without violent deaths so far in the month of May.

El Salvador also accumulated 95 days without murders so far this year, of which 22 belong to the month of January, 21 to February, 20 to March, 24 to the month of March, and eight to the month of May, according to statistics. officers of the National Civil Police (PNC) of El Salvador.

The emergency regime, implemented at the request of President Nayib Bukele, and approved by the Legislative Assembly, has allowed the authorities to eliminate more than 68,000 gang members from the streets who kept the population in fear.

The PNC, together with the Armed Forces, have seized more than 2,700 firearms, 3,610 vehicles, and more than 16,500 cell phones from gangs and their collaborators.

On the other hand, the renowned criminologist Ricardo Sosa projects that El Salvador will close 2023 with a homicide rate of 1.9 and 2.5 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants, based on data and evidence from official statistics of the Government of El Salvador.

During the administration of President Bukele, El Salvador managed to position itself as the country with the lowest homicide rate in Central America, and one of the safest in all of Latin America.
