El Salvador’s Health Minister Francisco Alabí said the country is “fully” prepared to face a possible monkeypox pandemic.

This statement comes in the context of a recent statement by the World Health Organization (WHO), which has issued a public health emergency alert of international concern due to the emergence of a new variant of the disease.

Monkeypox, which has been a cause of global concern, is characterized by symptoms similar to traditional smallpox, but in a milder form. The new variant, however, has raised concerns due to its ability to spread and its potential impact on public health.

“So far, we have not recorded any cases of this variant in the country. We continue to monitor its evolution worldwide and take all necessary measures to protect our population,” the minister said.
