San Salvador. The Salvadoran authorities highlighted on Thursday, May 11, the fact that the country reached 365 days with zero homicides, after four years of rule by the Bukele administration and almost 14 months of the Emergency Regime.

Given this fact, the Legislative Assembly approved a statement on Thursday night to thank the Armed Forces and the National Civil Police, as well as the institutions involved in maintaining peace and security in the country.

This pronouncement was supported only by 63 of the 84 deputies, that is, it did not have the support of the legislators who have traditionally opposed, from the outset, the application of the Exception Regime, on the grounds that it violates the rights humans.

This argument, embraced by the opposition, is also made by international organizations themselves, media related to traditional democracy and the supposed civil society, which do not speak vehemently for the human rights of the victims and their families.

President Nayib Bukele also celebrated this achievement on his social networks, which stems from a concrete effort in the Territorial Control Plan that the old Legislative Assembly rejected, but which was promoted with the current parliamentary authorities.

Meanwhile, opposition politicians such as the President of Arena, Carlos García Saade, feel uncomfortable with the current conditions in the country, to the point of expressing that “security cannot be eaten” and that “it borders on” to be talking about the “little speech” of safety. Others, such as former deputy Schafick Handal, ask the population to remove President Bukele from power; he even suggests that this action should be done by the people in “another way” if not through voting in the next elections.
