The National Civil Police (PNC) reported on their social networks that, this March 12, they closed the day with zero homicides. According to official statistics, there have been 57 days without violent deaths in the national territory so far in 2024.

This success is attributed to the effective deployment of the Territorial Control Plan, implemented since June 20, 2019, as well as the Exception Regime, supported by the Legislative Assembly, whose extension was confirmed for the 24th time, which will be in force from June 12. March until April 10.

With these figures, March maintains the trend with respect to the records of the first two months of 2024, making February the safest month in Salvadoran history with 24 days without homicides.

Currently, El Salvador has become the safest country in the entire Western Hemisphere with an annualized rate of 0.8 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants.

The security measures implemented by the government of President Nayib Bukele continue to demonstrate their effectiveness, reducing the daily average of homicides, reaching a notable figure of 0.4 per day during the last year, closing 2023 with a rate of 2.4 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants , contrasting significantly with the alarming 106.82 per 100,000 inhabitants registered in 2015.
