On Tuesday, Health Minister Francisco Alabi reported a decrease in the number of dengue cases in El Salvador, a result he attributed to the anti-vector actions carried out by the Government to combat the mosquito that transmits this disease.

“We have 571 confirmed cases of dengue, out of the 11 million in the Americas,” said Minister Alabi.

On the other hand, of the 571 confirmed cases in El Salvador, seven deaths have been reported due to dengue.

Minister Alabi also recalled that August 26 was the International Day for the Fight against Dengue and that it is one of the main transmitted diseases in the world.

“During the administration of President Nayib Bukele, the first epidemiology residency was established to guarantee the well-being of the population (…) We have trained personnel in all parts of the country to observe the behavior of all types of diseases,” explained the head of Health.

Alabi said that they have the capacity to treat dengue patients, and that there are the necessary medicines and supplies to combat the disease while other “countries in the region are being severely affected, with hospitals overcrowded.”
