The economist Santiago Peña, from the Colorado Party, became this Tuesday, August 15, the new president of Paraguay for the period 2023-2028, for which reason Dr. Felix Ulloa, representing the President of El Salvador and in his capacity of Vice President of the Republic arrived in Paraguay to participate in the transmission of command of the President Elect.

Upon his arrival, a day before, Vice President Ulloa was received at the air station in Luque by the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Raúl Silvero, to whom, on behalf of President Bukele, he extended a greeting to the Paraguayan people reiterating the strong ties of friendship ; During the first formal activity, the Mayor of Asunción, Mr. Óscar Rodríguez, handed him the key to the city, granting him the title of illustrious guest on behalf of the Municipality.

The ceremony took place this day at the Palacio de López and was attended by the leaders of Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Bolivia, as well as the King of Spain, taking advantage of the occasion to meet with His Majesty, King Felipe VI of Spain. During the bilateral, they strengthened the ties of friendship and cooperation that unite both peoples; They also addressed issues of great importance for Central America and Europe.

INAUGURATION

The new president also assured this Tuesday in his inauguration speech that his country “is called to be a protagonist in the concert of nations”, amid geopolitical tensions over access to water, food security and energy sufficiency.

“I will establish bridges of dialogue and cooperation with all sectors to reach agreements that benefit our country,” he assured.

He also ratified the importance that his government will give to the relationship with Taiwan, of which he assured that they feel “not only allies” but also “brothers.”

“Our relationship with the Republic of China Taiwan is a sample of this and of Paraguay’s friendly and cooperative spirit with nations for which we have great affection and with whom we feel not only allies, but also brothers,” said the new president.
