War of the Roses in the concert hall: John Eliot Gardiner is one of the gurus of classical music. He led the Monteverdi choir and orchestra for 60 years. Then there were scuffles. Gardiner founded a new collection. With this he takes his old route at the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie.

He apologized for this (it became clear that the singer was not doing well either), stopped for a while and underwent therapy. But when Gardiner was already invited again by foreign German orchestras this autumn, he first canceled again from the concert with the Monteverdi Choir and then, at the instigation of the husband, canceled completely late, namely eleven months after the incident in question.
Now it almost seems as if Gardiner, as a biblical avenger, is starting a feud with his own (ex-)orchestra: the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie has just announced that it will not be the only Monteverdi Choir and Orchestra on December 14th, as planned for long will play appropriate music by Bach and Charpentier, performed by the French baroque master Christophe Rousset. In an amazing concert exactly one week before, on December 7th, Sir John will appear there again: with a new ensemble – The Constellation Choir & Orchestra – and with exactly the same program!
Baroque beef is of course set. Gardiner enthuses: “It’s a unique new project, a lively collection of music collections, artists and creative people who will benefit, multiplayer projects and travel around the world.”
And Elbphilhamonie’s hypocrisy even allows its old Gardiner customers to change the date from the 14th to the 7th if they want. Soli Deo Gardiner.
