Cipriano Domínguez Rodríguez, an 80-year-old man who had been admitted to the Saturnino Lora Provincial Hospital in Santiago de Cuba, and for whom he asked for help in recent days, died in recent hours.

The information was confirmed by Yosmany Mayeta Labrada on his Facebook account, recalling that the reason for his admission was a fall in a passenger transport in the city. Later, it was learned that she did not have the support of any family member.

Domínguez Rodríguez was initially in Floor 3, Bed 7, but his health became complicated due to his advanced age and other pathologies.

For this reason, he was transferred to Intensive Care. For several days, and during that time, several requests were made for help to find a relative.

Finally, hours before his death, his loved ones appeared, a niece being the one who took responsibility for him.

“After several announcements to identify family members and the provincial authorities to take action on the matter, his relatives appeared hours before his death, taking responsibility for him, a niece”Mayeta Labrada mentioned.

Social Workers from Santiago de Cuba also attended to provide care to the elderly man, although unfortunately they arrived after his death.

Mayeta Labrada highlighted that the identification of Domínguez Rodríguez was possible thanks to a follower of hers who provided information.

The man had the Ration Book with him, which contained his personal information and the area where he lived, although without specifying the street or the exact number of his home.

Sadly, this is not the first case of people dying in a hospital without adequate medical care or the presence of their family members.

Many of the elderly Cubans, today, find themselves completely alone for one reason or another, without receiving any type of help from the authorities.
