Election campaign in Italy: “Giorgia Meloni is still a novelty”

by time news

Pollster Lorenzo Pregliasco on the right’s chances of winning in Italy and why post-fascists are so popular.

Who has the best cards to win Italy’s September 25 general election?

Lorenzo Pregliasco: The center-right alliance would – as things stand – win by a clear margin. Her win would confirm the trend that has been evident in polls since 2018. The current mixed electoral system also favors the alliance (two-thirds of the seats are allocated via party lists, one-third by proportional representation in single constituencies; ed.), as center-right parties in single constituencies are also largely favourites. But of course nothing has been decided yet. Even if this election campaign is very short, it can still postpone some things.
