The 12th conference of election commissions of SAARC countries will be held in September. Bangladesh Election Commission (EC) will also attend the conference of Election Management Bodies of South Asia (FEMBOSA).

The matter is known from the office order signed by EC Human Resource Management Department Deputy Secretary Mohammad Nurul Alam.

It has been said that Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal and his private secretary Md. Riaz Uddin will participate.

EC will bear the air fare to attend the conference. And Nepal Election Commission will bear the cost of local accommodation and travel.

The 9th Fombosa conference was held in Dhaka in 2018. The then CEC KM Nurul Huda was the president at that time.

EC Joint Secretary SM Asaduzzaman said that the 12th Fombosa conference will be held with the participation of representatives of Election Commission of Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan and Maldives and Afghanistan.

The conference is expected to discuss voter education, importance of women’s participation in elections, role of social media in election campaigning, expectations of young voters, autonomy and independence of election management institutions, role of media, research on elections, assurance of fair, free elections and participatory elections.

In 2010, the journey of ‘Forum of Election Management Bodies’ or (FEMBOSA) started with the aim of mutual cooperation on elections among South-East Asian countries through a conference of election commissions of SAARC countries in Dhaka.

After that, Fombosa conference is being held periodically in different countries of SAARC countries. Already, the National ID of Bangladesh, Photo Voter List etc. in Fombosa has been highly appreciated.
