As the new Democratic candidate, Kamala Harris is bringing a breath of fresh air to the US election campaign. As a black woman, she appeals to new groups of voters. But there is one detail in which the public perception of her is incorrect. “She is not like that. The Germans have a completely wrong assessment of her,” says Andrea Römmele, a professor at the Hertie School. Römmele has lived in the USA for research purposes and has been observing the election campaigns there for decades.
