The Election Commission has examined the holding of local council elections on March 4.
A special meeting of the National Election Commission was held in Colombo today.
Application for nomination
During this, it was agreed to hold the election by March 10th and it was discussed to hold the election on March 4th.
Also, the gazette notification regarding the application for nomination for the local council election will be published within the next day.
In March last year, the term of office of 340 local government councils namely Pradesh Sabhas, City Councils and Municipal Councils was extended for one year.
Funding for conducting elections
According to this, new congregations should be established on March 20, 2023.
It is also noted that the Election Commission has requested funds for conducting the elections from Thiraseri.
