Election Sunday in Tyrol’s municipalities could cause surprises – Tyrol

Innsbruck – A total of 505,752 citizens can exercise their right to vote in Tyrol today. New local councils and mayors have to be appointed in 273 municipalities. There are 861 candidates across the Tyrol and 562 mayoral candidates. A total of 3,650 mandates are up for grabs – although the election is not one in all places. Because in 40 municipalities there will only be one list on the ballot today, in 113 localities only one mayoral candidate will stand. Voter turnout was 71.4 percent in the 2016 elections and should be about the same this year, as previous figures (70.2 percent) show.
